The areas of Prebuz, Kovářská and their surroundings have been intensively populated since the Middle Ages thanks to mining activities. By 1945, a large part of the population was of German origin.
The demographic development of these areas in the border area also affected land use. After the resettlement of the Sudeten Germans after World War II, arable land almost disappeared.
In the second half of the 20th century, both areas were significantly affected by atmospheric pollution.
