The injured party is an important subject of criminal proceedings. Their position is dependent upon the extent of rights granted by the legislation to exercise their interests.
A trend of recent years, which is reflected in strengthening of the injured party's position and in considering their interests in criminal proceedings, is also visible in changes of the Slovak legislation on criminal proceedings. The chapter seeks to specify the injured party's rights, which enable them to infl uence the course of criminal proceedings and to address various problems associated with inadequate regulation of their procedural rights.
It addresses the issues also through a comparison with the rights of the accused in criminal proceedings.
