Economic and Cultural Aspects of the Polish Migration to the German Borderlands

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |

Abstract

Germany is the main target country of Polish economic migration since 1989. New type of migration appeared in North-Eastern German border region since the EU enlargement.

This migration pattern has hardly any precedent in the history of Polish migration. It also challenges traditional ethnic stereotypes as the Poles do not "steel jobs" (as was expected by Germans before the accession) but bring capital instead.
