A complementary study to Czech edition of the biography of Ferdinand I of Austria (1503-1564) by Austrian historian Alfred Kohler, attached to the book in the form of a afterword. This essay presents Alfred Kohler and his work to Czech readers, supplements his work with significant details (especially from Czech history), which were omitted in Kohler's book, and outlines actual questions of the further research.
It also evaluates the Czech historiography concerning Ferdinand I and endeavors to sketch out the position of this monarch within the Czech historical memory.
