Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation constitutes one of recently developed methods in the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The most common use is currently being found in therapy of the depressive spectrum as well as tinnitus, but recent studies have proved its benefits in a wide range of other neuropsychiatric diseases.
Currently the most common and the most researched area of application is the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, even though with ongoing discoveries of its possibilities there comes a plethora of newly researched areas. The effect of most common therapeutic uses is well proven in comparison to placebo.
The exact mechanism of its effect remains unclear, yet extensive research is also focused in this particular direction.
