The edited book is a collection of the most important scholarly studies and essays by Josef Čermák (b. 1928), literary historian and editor. The individual items (ranging in date from 1949 to 2015) cover the three main domains of the author᾽s scholarly interest: comparative literature (focusing on French and German literature), relations between the Czech and German culture (with an emphasis on Prague Jewish literary production in German), and on various aspects of the life and literary career of Franz Kafka, Josef Čermák᾽s lifelong principal theme.
