The main goal of the paper is to discuss the ways in which Near East was depicted in the paratextual material of Bohemian early modern travelogues. applying the perspective of visual culture, the author shows how the oldest travelogues were strongly influenced by the so-called biblical alterity, how this imagery intermingled with early orientalizing patterns in the Harant's travelogue of 1610 and how it prevailed again tn the 17th-century Bohemian pilgrim reports.
