Abstract
In the Czech Republic, swimming, teaching swimming and swimming for life do not interconnect. In the area of swimming education, swimming is mandatory as a part of physical education at elementary schools.
The paper attempts to outline the readiness to handle this new situation in terms of staffing, material conditions.
