Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

Valleys of the Kugitang piedmont (Sherabad district, Surchandaryo region, Uzbekistan) have been investigated by Czech-Uzbekistani expedition since 2014. During last three years were detected more than two hundred stone features, preliminary interpreted as so-called kurgans, burial mounds usually connected with ancient steppe nomads of Eurasian steppe zone.

Some of these features have been uncovered, however no burial has been found. Therefore, the purpose of the features remains unclear.

Starting in season 2017 these kurgan-like features are being examined in more detail. The poster presents current results of the survey focused on the mapping of these features, spatial analysis of the objects within a cluster, and the clusters themselves within the surrounding landscape including known prehistoric settlement situation.
