The topic of my paper is "the Series of Love throughout the Czech History" - a series of TV plays created and introduced by the main editorial department of dramatic programmes of the Czechoslovak Television in Prague. The series is focused around the earliest period of Czech history, stretching from the times of duke Břetislav I up to the rule of George of Poděbrady.
The common theme is the experience of love in a particular era as it was depicted by authors of that time. The screenplay and the visual concept for each episode were created by various teams of directors and screenwriters.
Some of the episodes were entirely original, whereas others were based on historical novels such as Vladislav Vančura's "Pictures of the History of the Bohemian Nation" (Obrazy z dějin národa českého). The aim of this paper is the introduction, interpretation and evaluation of each of the series' episodes as an independent and distinctive work of art.
Every episode has a potential of sparking the viewers' interest for the nation's history through an intriguing storyline. Furthermore, the episodes introduce great historical figures, previously known mostly from history textbooks, as vivid human beings with all their joys and worries.
