The Afterlife of Repressions as a New Founding Act of Czech Catholicism, or: The Birth of an Archetype "Writer-Martyr". Central European Cultures in the Struggle against Communist Totalitarianism

Abstract

The persecutions of Catholic writers, organized by the Czechoslovac Communist regime, caused a secondary effect: An archetype of "Writer-Martyr" came into being in the self-reflection of Czech Catholic Milieu. This archetype appears both in the literary production of writers of next Catholic generations (Diviš, Jirous, Křepelka) and in the Catholic literary history and criticism.
