Political orientation is an important guideline for the research of attitudes and stereotypes, because foreign psychological studies confirm that people with a different political orientation differ in their contents and strength (Jost, Glaser, Kruglanski, & Sulloway, 2003). Political orientation is usually measured by self-enlistment questions or by a set of statements.
It has been confirmed that in the Czech Republic the declared political orientation is not related with the expressed political positions and values (Vinopal, 2006). It is therefore safer to use complex interpretation tools involving sets of items mapping a larger number of aspects of political orientation.
A psychologically relevant questionnaire for measuring political orientation is lacking in the Czech Republic. The article presents the development of a new scale focusing on equality as the key value in political orientation.
The scale comprises seven items divided into the subscale "Equality" and subscale "Preservation of inequalities". The scale correlates with self-enlistment of political orientation.
Although summary psychometric characteristics of the scale are sufficient, more development is needed due to the contradictory nature of selected partial characteristics.
