Dyspnoea in a patient with mechanical aortic valve replacement

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

This case report is an example of serious complications in a patient with a thrombophilic condition due to the urinary bladder tumor, in which it was repeatedly necessary to reduce full anticoagulation therapy. Cardioembolic stroke (small thrombus on the mitral valve ring) occurred for the first time.

For the second time, there was the life-threatening thrombosis with severe valvular obstruction on the implanted mechanical bileaflet aortic prosthesis. Both complications have been successfully managed (systemic thrombolysis, reoperation with a mechanical valve explant).

Implantation of bioprosthesis was beneficial to the patient because this replacement will not require permanent anticoagulation therapy with warfarin in the future.
