Abstract

This is a critical edition of the legend of the Blessed Hroznata, which was written in Teplá Abbey (West Bohemia) in the middle of the 13th century. Hroznata of Teplá was one of the most influencial noblemen in the Přemyslid state at the turn of the 12th and 13th century.

Twice he wanted to participate in the crusade to the Holy Land but was both times dispensed by the pope. In compensation he was charged with the founding of two monasteries - the first for men Premonstratensians in Teplá (1197) and then for women Premonstratensians in Chotěšov (ca. 1200).

He himself entered into the monastery in Teplá and became a monk and provost. He was martyred in 1217, afterwhich he was venerated among the Premonstratensians as a saint.

In 1897 he was beatified by Pope Leo XIII. and 2004 saw the commencement of his canonisation, which is currently in progress.
