This study will attempt to introduce the influence of the Mongol invasion on the Rus'-Livonian trade and the position of German buyers in a foreign country, especial in the 13th century. On specific examples from Smolensk and Great Novgorod it isdocumented that the Mongold held a pragmatic attitude towards the long-distance trade and the buyers who operated it.
