The nineties in the Czech Republic were marked by major politico-economic, cultural and social changes. These changes were also reflected in the music field.
Generally, the period was characterized by a listeners' shift away from local music production and their prioritization of various foreign musical genres that started to be popular in our country. The objective of this paper is to present results of a qualitative fieldwork, which focused on the musical preferences of young people in post-Velvet Revolution period.
Considerable attention was also paid to other related phenomena of surveyed period. The research was conducted in Prostějov in the Olomouc region from January to September 2016. 15 respondents were contacted and interviewed based on prepared topics.
The research was carried out using oral history method, which is based on selected respondents' commemorative narratives of a particular experienced phenomenon, event or period in the past. Subsequently, these statements were analyzed and interpreted.
