Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of a selected syntactic function of the verb JÍT/go. Based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis backed by the data drawn from the Czech National Corpus, respectively from the corpus SYN2015, we point out the specific function of the verb to JÍT/go, that does not in all its uses represents the meaning of the physical movement.
In the process of grammaticalization the verb JÍT/go completed by an infinitive of a semantic verb looses its own meaning and becomes a part of an analytic predicate. Then, semantic roles of the verb JÍT/ go, which is a part of the analytical predicate, is marking the initial phase of progressive action or it represents a modal function of the predicate.
