Abstract
The text focuses on the unfinished utopian novel by Mikhail Mikhailovich Scherbatov (1733-1790) - Journey to the Land of Opfyr. The author raises the question whether the literary Ophyr empire with its peculiar state system and social order can be regarded as the reflection of Scherbatov's vision of Russian future, and if so, to what extent.
Several features of Ophyr's historical development make it similar to Russia, but others directly contradict Scherbatov's publicistic ideas.
