Testing the "Grandmother hypothesis": Historical demographic perspective

Abstract

The main aim of the paper is to verify the applicability of the "Grandmother hypothesis" by using historical demographic data from 17th - 19th century Bohemia. The "Grandmother hypothesis" proposes that menopause allows grandmothers to contribute to the reproductive outcomes of their offspring.
