Abstract
This chapter analyses the potential of the old and elderly with their significance for public solidarity. The analysis focuses upon public policies in favour of the ageing and aged and intergenerational solidarity, the economic activity of the aged, their involvement in public and private solidarity (voluntary work) and in family life (housekeeping, caring for grandchildren etc.).
