Abstract

This paper is associated with the person of Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus, a man who was involuntarily of his will drawn into the center of the stormy events, that led to the fall of the Kingdom in ancient Rome, and the establishment of a new form of government - the Republic. The story of Collatinus illustrates the hectic and turbulent transformation of the Kingdom into the Republic.

Perhaps it would be better and more apt to say a coup d'état. And as it sometimes is, every coup has both, its heroes and its victims.

The fate of Collatinus shows us, that one man who was once the victim can become a hero and then tables turn and he can become the victim again.
