Abstract

European cinema has been a focus of film historians and theoreticians for some time. It has been explored in relation to Hollywood and with respect to authorial cinematic waves with the attention shifting recently to the cultural industries and audiovisual politics of European Union.

The article covers some of the main topic regarding EU film policy, audience and production research and trends uncovered by the Mediating Cultural Encounters through European Screens (MeCETES) research project.
