Abstract

Objectives. The purpose of this paper was (a) to develop a tool for assessment precursors of propensity to aggressive behavior, (b) establish relationship between specific style of reality processing and inclination to solve social problems using aggressive strategies moderated by feelings of insecurity.

Subjects and setting. Responses were obtained from a representative sample of 3,159 Czech schoolchildren between 13 and 15 years of age in the context of a project Opinions, experiences and feelings of schoolchildren.

The interval covers the critical transition period from childhood to early adolescence. The subjects were asked to fill in the online questionnaire anonymously via the internet during regular classes under the supervision of their teachers.

Results. The findings indicated noticeable role of security feeling, defined by a child standing in the family, at school, and life satisfaction, as a mediator of relationship between natural predispositions to break social norms, inherent tendency to react impulsively without taking into account consequences, social marginality and aggressive problem -solving style.

The results suggest the possibility of educational intervention as a crucial means in modification of a sociably undesirable behavior. Study limitation.
