Abstract

The paper pursues use of irony and humour as literary means in short stories by a Japanese author, Shōtarō Yasuoka, and a Czech writer, Jaroslav Hašek, with regard to the high frequency of use of both irony and humour in their works and with attention being paid to unexpected similarities in biographies of both authors.
