A discussion of the notational systems employed over the nineteenth century, starting with Gapasak'alean's modified Greek-Armenian hybrid neumatic systems, the Limónčean system, Tntesean's research and procedures, and Kiwreghean's work and its motivation; the article includes some recent results from the author's own research, including the decipherment of one of the systems deployed in Gapasak'alean's 1794 Nuagaran volume, and the identification of discrepancies between Tntesean's theoretical principles and apparent redactional procedures in his own realisations and transcriptions of the Armenian Hymnal melodies.
