Abstract
The paper describes a recent loanword from English, predátor, its motivation and gradual establishment in Czech in two stages and on several stylistic levels, scientific, general language and popular science, in different media. Using corpus data, the study outlines its competition with the Czech equivalents, dravec and šelma, and its semantic and morphological diversification.
