Abstract
The chapter deals with the Italian composer and instrumentalist Antonio Scandello (1517-1580), one of the cultivators of a villanella in the regions north of the Alps. He was active at the court of Saxon Electors Maurice and August from 1549 until his death.
His second book of villanellas was dedicated to the Archduke Ferdinand II of Austria.
