Abstrakt
The paper examines the sea as a theme in traditional Czech folk songs, Czech tramping/country music as well as masterpieces of Czech classical music. As the Czech Republic has always been a landlocked country (of which previous kingdoms and empires forbade the migration of common people), it is interesting to observe the sea as a theme.
The sea was not a part of people's everyday reality, and was often perceived as a metaphor or an unknown, dreamy place. Creeks, ponds, rivers, lakes and other water motives occurring frequently in Czech landscape as well as texts of Czech songs are analyzed too.
