The contribution investigates which sources of information in form of Czech written educative literature were available to a general public in the 19th century. At its beginning, Brazil penetreted in the Central European awareness because of the marriage of the Archduchess of Austria Maria Leopoldina, later thanks to increasing emigration.
The research is focused on works of general educative and encyclopedic character of that time: translations and compilations of historical writings by Jakub Malý; geographical works of Jan Palacký and encyclopedies of Rieger and Otto.
