Abstract

Diamond Way Buddhism is sometimes seen as an isolated new religious movement in the West. To oppose this approach, the article initially focuses on the historical context of this movement: a short history of establishing of the Tibetan Buddhism in the West is outlined and three main missions of Kagjü school are briefly mentioned.

In the second part of the article, the founding personalities of Diamond Way Buddhism, Ole and Hannah Nydahl, are introduced and the community of their followers is characterized. Without any doubt, this new religious movement represents one of the results of great effort of the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje to establish the Karma Kagjü lineage in the West.
