Psychedelics represent a specific group of substances legislatively classified among other addictive drugs. However, they differ mostly in their relatively minimal addictive potential and, according to the current findings, they have a wide range of therapeutic uses with a number of mental illnesses, e.g. depression, anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or addictions.
Psychedelic substances could play an important role in the recovery of people who cannot be helped by conventional methods. Despite an increasing number of research results showing their relative harmlessness, these substances are not being used adequately, that is on the basis of the available empirical evidence.
