Current state of antibiotic resistance and rational antibiotic treatment

Abstract

Resistance to antibiotics has increased dramatically in recent years. The benefit of new antibiotics is of limited importance.

In the near future, increasing mortality rates for infections caused by multi-resistant microorganisms and stagnation of many medical disciplines can be expected. A possible solution is the limited overall consumption of antibiotics and their rational targeted use.

There is a National Antibiotic Program in the Czech Republic which, together with other institutions, should ensure the long-term availability of effective anti-infective drugs.
