Hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate are widely distributed glycosaminoglycans throughout the human body. Among others,they also cover the bladder surface and the disruption of their layer may result in a higher incidence of urinary tract infections(IMC).
This text discusses the possibilities of their intravesical application in order to reduce the recurrence of IMC, however, theyalso play a role in the treatment of bladder painful syndrome or in men with prostate cancer after radiotherapy.
