Incidence of sudden cardiovascular death in athletes or in relation to physical activity in Czech Republic is unknown. International and European data are inconsistent.
The degree of nonfatal cardiac impairment is also not precisely understood despite recent advances. If the individual athlete in Czech Republic is screened the obligatory components of examination are detailed personal and family history, thorough physical examination and resting ECG evaluated using specialized standardized criteria.
All other examinations, tests and imaging methods are additional and are indicated upon results of the mandatory part of the screening. Update of criteria for evaluation of resting ECG in athletes has been recently published.
