"Kirchenkonkurrenz" was an effective means of financing the construction or repair of Catholic Church buildings and the running of parishes. It was also a means of protecting the core assets of parishes before their demise, and was possible even without the direct financial participation of the state.

The state only contributed to the financing if it was also a patron. The legislation, however, was ready for the abolition of the right of patronage, as the result of which one of the parties to "Kirchenkonkurrenz" would disappear and the cost would be divided between the parishioners, i.e., the members of the parish or church community.

The Catholic Church, due to the abolition of the system of "Kirchenkonkurrenz" in 1949, lost a considerable source of independent funding for its material and personnel costs.
