The Mannerist Decoration of the Church of San Sigismondo as the Supreme Manifestation of the Humanist Milieu in Cremona

Abstract

The paper describes local artistic projects in which a profound Renaissance humanism manifests itself. These artistic projects testify to the important role played by the members of the aristocracy and high-ranking princes of the church who commissioned them and who influenced their iconographic concepts directly or indirectly.
