Abstract
Ocular symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease can be divided into extraintestinal manifestations and secondary ocular complications. Ocular symptoms of idiopathic bowel inflammations can be a valuable signal of activation of the underlying disease.
The knowledge of ocular symptoms is a necessary part of successful interdisciplinary care for patients with idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases. Local treatment is fully in the hands of an ophthalmologist, while the overall therapy should be coordinated between a gastroenterologist and the ophthalmologist.
