Ethical and psychosocial aspects of care in HIV-positive patients

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

A number of people with human immunodeficiency virus infection (Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV) are still rising in the Czech Republic. Specialists already now consider HIV to be a chronic illness.

The reason for this success is antiretroviral therapy. However, there is need for absolute patient co - operation.

HIV infection does not compromise only the area of health but it also socially stigmatizes those who suffer from it and brings about many others stressors such as the possibility of work, social isolation. A nurse can play a positive role in helping the Hiv-positive patients.
