Abstract

"After Finitude" (ALF in what follows) by Quentin Meillassoux has quickly acquired a certain fame and its theses continue to be discussed in recent books. Meillassoux appears as a leader of a movement of speculative realism in IsabelleThomas-Fogiel's book "Le lieu de l'universel".

According to the subtitle of ALF "An Essay On The Necessity Of Contingency" he argues for the contingency of the laws of nature. This is, I think, the weakest point of the argumentation of ALF.

On the contrary, I feel that its most interesting argument is his refutation of the principle of reason. However I think that ALF does not develop it in its full strength and I think their is no reason to base this argument on a putative contingency of the laws of nature.
