The contribution synthesizes recreation demand values attributed to natural areas in Europe. We derive a measure of central tendency of European estimates from the published recreation studies in the past 35 years that were based on primary (individual) data.
Since the estimates are substantially heterogeneous across the primary studies, we further disentangle factors of variability in reported values of consumer surplus per visitor per trip. A meta-analytic model is the core of the current analysis.
The results show that the absolute in-sample errors of the model are relatively favourable and the model yields a range of estimates that may be employed for valuation of Czech areas.
