The site of the Holy Sepulchre in Görlitz was built at the end of the 15th century and instantly became a scene for religious performances and for representation of urban community as well. A story of local highly ranked pilgrim bringing a ground plan of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre from Jerusalem authorized a demonstration of the authenticity of the building.
Still, there were several pilgrims from Görlitz to Jerusalem at the same time and two different stories circulated in a collective memory of the urban community, each of them stressing founding merits of a different person. This contribution focuses on the development of the dispute and analyses cultural capital attached to the site of the Holy Sepulchre in Görlitz.
