The paper focuses on Jiří Weil's journalistic work in the 1920s and 1930s. In his articles, Weil very intensely informed about the cultural scene in Soviet Russia and introduced the Czechoslovak audience to Russian Soviet literature.
The paper analyzes selected articles published in Literární noviny and in the Communist weekly Tvorba in relation to three factors, namely: the referent, the medium, and the time of publication of the article. Through this analysis, it turns out that for Weil's journalistic activity, not only the enthusiasm for the new Soviet art is typical, but also the inconsistency that is reflected in the way Weil informed about some topics or personalities of the period of the Russian cultural scene (Viktor Shklovsky, Vladimir Mayakovsky, proletarian literature, futurism).
