Networks of (Ex)Change: Ideological Shifts and Network Transformation

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

This presentation considers networks theory and analysis as a way to explore the political and economic interactions in the area of Dodecanese archipelago and the coastal Caria during the Classical period. With primary focus on diachronic analysis of network structure, the presentation makes use of rich epigraphic and material evidence corpora in order to understand how major shifts of political ideology (Delian League, Persian Empire) might have influenced economic practices in the region.

The presentation is based on reconstruction of probable economic and political ties among identified sites within a GIS framework. Did exchange networks mirror the patterns of political networks? How can approach as this contribute to a much more complex perspective of regional interaction?
