Abstract

Garifunas are an Afro-Indian ethnic group that traces its origins to the island of St. Vincent in 17th century.

Garifunas were relocated to the Caribbean coast of Central America and since 20th century many of them moved to the USA. Despite this history of displacements Garifunas have preserved their unique language, culture and religious traditions that are now being revived by the last migration wave to the USA.
