The thesis reflects ethical aspects of the insurance business in a view of an protestant theologian. The work deals with the roots of insurance business, tries to compare the solidarity principle of insurance with the Bible sayings on lending and/or loans.
It contains also a part dealing with the topic of uncertainity in Islam and its concept of Takaful. Two particular theses of the work, one about a significant difference between theory and practice in present insurance business and the other about a big peril for the whole branch of insurance which issues exactly from the cleft between theory and practice are checked against practical examples from the ambiance of insurance business (e.g. insurance terms, statements of both insurance houses and insurance dealers).
The closing part of the work is devoted to considerations whether the insurance business may or may not be a suitable job for a Christian, based partly on Martin Luther's concept of vocation.
