The author presents her application of cognitive behavioural approach and Gestalt approach in a long-term counselling process. The course of the 3.5 years work is described using the Korb model (1989) which defines five steps in the process of development of the client from dependence on external support from the part of the counsellor/therapist to the self-support: 1. focusing on current behaviour 2. focusing on old affairs and traumas 3. focusing on inner self-concept 4. focusing on decision-making in life events 5. focusing on new behaviour.
