Allophonic Variability in Czech from the Perspective of Speech Synthesis

Abstract

This study examines the allophonic variability of the consonant system of Czech from the perspective of concatenative speech synthesis. An incorrect allophonic variant was force-synthesized into target words and analyzed auditorily to identify possible intrusive artefacts.

Recommendations for unit selection in synthesis are then discussed.
