Abstract

The Czech Republic and Slovakia have experienced significant changes in the last quarter of the century, not only in the age structure of the population. The composition of the population has a significant impact on the financial and labor market, demand for goods and services, such as housing, transport and social security as well as family structures and intergenerational relationships.

At a later stage of man's life, it seems that behavior does not affect only the chronological age, but also the prospective age, ie the number of years left to live. The concept of the prospective age and analysis of population aging brings a new dimension that reflects significant changes in mortality and population health.

The aim of the contribution is not only to present the prospective characteristics that can be used in the analyzes of demographic aging and their development in the last quarter of the year but also to present the results of the regional differentiation focusing on the Czechia and Slovakia in the European context. For example, the application of prospective characteristics at NUTS2 level has allowed the identification of other potentially endangered regions with the consequences of demographic aging, which, according to standard indicators, appeared to be relatively young.

Using this concept in practice could benefit, in particular, in the public sector.
