Health and quality of life of each individual has been a recurring topic over the last seven decades at various conferences and expert meetings. A number of strategy papers have been adopted to reduce significant geographical differences in the quality and availability of health care, but also to increase health literacy and self-interest.
Czechia is no exception in this respect. The latest large survey, conducted in Czechia in order to study health literacy in the population aged over 15 has shown alarming results.
Almost 60% of the population of Czechia has reduced level of health literacy. The three-year study was designed to analyze and summarize the results of the health literacy survey and health status of participants of Health Days event held at the Faculty of Science of Charles University between 2014 and 2016.
A total of 286 respondents aged 18 to 30 were included in the study. Health literacy and preventive examinations of respondents were detected as worst.
The results of the study suggest that despite a very good availability of information at the time sometimes referred to as the "modern information society", educated young people still have a very young awareness of the availability of individual preventive examinations and are not very interested in their health from this point of view. Can this trend change or be affected positively?. (C) 2018 Czech Medical Association J.E.
