Pyroloids are mycoheterotrophic plants at early stages of ontogenesis i.e. dependent on fungal symbiont. It was therefore impossible to cultivate these medically valuable plants for research or conservation purposes.
Our novel protocol describing cultivation conditions which allows to reach high (up to 100%) germination rate of two Pyroloids: Orthilia secunda and Pyrola minor. Furthemore this protocol is allowing us to cultivate green leafy adult plants so whole life cycle of these plants which are important model organisms for study of mycoheterotrophy could be observed in detail.
